The Story

About This Place

On Mã Mây — one of the Old Quarter's most recognisable streets — Chops Old Quarter operates as a brunch restaurant and diner that has built a unusually large review base for a Hoan Kiem sit-down spot: over 3,000 Google ratings at 4.6 stars signals something more durable than passing foot traffic. The diner and brunch format positions it squarely between the Old Quarter's pho stalls and the area's growing number of Western-leaning cafés, offering a middle ground for mornings and midday meals where the format is familiar and the pacing is unhurried.

The address puts guests within walking distance of Hoan Kiem Lake and the dense grid of the 36 streets, making it a practical stop during a morning of the district. Where many Old Quarter options cater to quick turnover, the diner classification suggests table time is respected — an attribute reflected in the volume and consistency of reviews accumulated over time.

For visitors comparing options along Mã Mây and the surrounding lanes, the rating volume alone separates Chops Old Quarter from newer entrants that carry thinner track records. The brunch-and-diner positioning is relatively uncommon on this particular street, where the competition skews toward Vietnamese street food formats or generic tourist cafés. Whether the draw is a proper egg-based morning plate or a sit-down lunch outside the usual pho-or-bún binary, the repeat patronage implied by 3,000-plus reviews suggests the kitchen delivers reliably against expectations.

Really good burgers, I got the Swiss and truffle one, it was a pretty big portion! Taste wise the beef is cooked perfectly but I would say the taste is really good but not shockingly wow. Overall worth it if you’re craving burgers. I went during dinner and I felt that the place was too dark, and it was really warm since I went during the heatwave, so probably a good idea to sit next to a fan.

We were highly recommended this burger joint and it truly lived up to the hype! The burger was absolutely delicious, the service was quick and it was clear how popular this place is. Although the milkshake wasn’t quite what we expected - it wasn’t made with ice cream and I was hoping for a real calorie-killer! The overall experience was still fantastic. Definitely worth the visit!

Amazing experience in Hanoi Old Quarter. I visited Chops Old Quarter and honestly everything was perfect. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The fries were crispy and fresh. The service was friendly and fast, and the atmosphere was great with a really nice vibe in the heart of the Old Quarter. Everything impressed me from the food to the place. Highly recommended if you’re in Hanoi.

We were walking through Hanoi’s Old Quarter and chose this place for dinner based on TripAdvisor reviews. We ordered burgers and a salad, but the dishes were not served at the same time, which was disappointing. The burgers arrived without fries, and the salad took the longest to come. Unfortunately, the salad was overdressed and very oily — it would have been much better if the dressing had been served on the side. The restaurant itself is small, nicely designed, and has a clear sense of style. The staff speak English, which is a big plus. However, food is the most important part of the experience. The burgers were acceptable, but not outstanding. Overall, based on the reviews, I expected a better dining experience.
